Abstract

Dance profession from the perspective of aspirational work. The impact of romanticisation of work and gendered labour market on the dance profession Abstract In professions motivated by love, there is an easy overlap between leisure and work time, which is also the premise of the ideology of romanticization of work, which seems to be the solution to the constant search for work-life balance. When work becomes a passion, the problem seemingly disappears. The promise of a future spent doing what we enjoy motivates us to devote time and energy to an activity that will hopefully turn into a profession. However, work motivated by love has a self-exploitative and individualising potential, where discussion of poor work conditions and low pay becomes secondary. This paper explores the effects of the romanticization of work in the dance profession, the way it is shaped by aspirations for future success, and how the gendered labour market translates into the working conditions of male and female dancers. Dopady romantizace práce a genderovaného pracovního trhu na taneční profesi Abstrakt V profesích motivovaných láskou snadno dochází k překrývání volného a pracovního času, což je také předpoklad ideologie romantizace práce, která se zdá být řešením pro neustálé hledání rovnováhy mezi prací a soukromím. Když se práce stane vášní, problém zdánlivě mizí. Příslib budoucnosti strávené děláním toho, co nás baví, pak motivuje k věnování času a energie činnosti, která se snad promění v povolání. Nicméně práce motivovaná láskou má sebevykořisťující a individualizující potenciál, kdy se diskuze o špatných pracovních podmínkách a nízkém odměňování stává vedlejší. Tato práce zkoumá dopady romantizace práce v taneční profesi, způsob, jakým ji formuje aspirace na budoucí úspěch a jak se genderovaný trh práce promítá do pracovních podmínek tanečníků a tanečnic.
