Abstract

Law, Progress, and the Temporality of Politics Abstract The present work is an interdisciplinary contribution to the study of late-modern temporality. Following the tradition of critical theory, it comes up with both functional and normative critique of contemporary society, which it frames with the term "anxiety society". The materialization of "anxiety society" is the experience of what Hartmut Rosa calls "frenetic standstill" in which "nothing remains the same, but nothing essentially changes". We begin our analysis with the statistics of the increasing prevalence of psychiatric patients with anxiety and depression and the related critique of how the "privatisation of stress" ignores the societal context of mental disorders. Next, the thesis will focus on the systemic causes of mental health changes in the population. We will identify the fact that the sources of mental distress are increasingly abstract as the anxiety- creating specificity of contemporary society. We live in a post-disciplinary society that is not based on the dichotomy of forbidden/allowed, but on the division of the possible and the impossible, and in which subjects increasingly control themselves in accordance with the demands of the system, so that coercion and freedom merge. Právo, pokrok a časový rozměr politiky Abstrakt Předkládaná práce je mezioborovým příspěvkem ke zkoumání temporality pozdní modernity. V tradici kritické teorie přichází s funkční i normativní kritikou současné společnosti, již rámuje termínem "společnost úzkosti". Jejím zhmotněním je v návaznosti na Hartmuta Rosu zkušenost "zběsilé strnulosti", v níž "nic nezůstává stejné, ale zároveň se nic zásadně nemění". Zkoumání začínáme u statistik zvyšující se prevalence psychiatrických pacientů s úzkostmi a depresemi a u kritiky "privatizace stresu", která duševní poruchy vytrhává z jejich celospolečenského kontextu. Proto se práce následně zaměří na systémové příčiny proměn duševního zdraví obyvatelstva. Jako specifikum současné společnosti vedoucí právě k úzkostem označíme to, že zdroje duševního strádání jsou čím dál více abstraktní. Nacházíme se totiž v postdisciplinární společnosti, která nestojí na dualitě zakázaného a dovoleného, ale na dualitě možné a nemožného, a v níž se subjekty stále více kontrolují v souladu s požadavky systému samy, takže nátlak a svoboda splývají. Oblastí, z níž však sociální patologie současnosti vychází především, je oblast časových struktur a vztahů ve společnosti.
