Abstract

The thesis deals with the phenomenon of the crisis of European integration and disintegration, a topic that has re-emerged in the academic arena, especially due to the British referendum on remaining in the European Union. This text focuses on the concept of disintegration and disintegration theories that attempt to explain and predict integration crises such as this one. Specifically, the thesis focuses on the UK's withdrawal from the European Union, which occurred on 31 January 2020, thus Brexit plays the role of a case that is analysed in detail. The thesis is framed as a case study that aims to see whether any existing integration or disintegration theoretical approach can, on the basis of its given theses and definitions, explain the crises of European integration and identify their causes. The most relevant theories to test, which currently have something to say about disintegration, were chosen - postfunctionalism, social constructivism and the intergovernmental liberal approach. Each of these theories contains a completely different view and perspective on the development of European integration and potential crises. Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem krizí evropské integrace a dezintegrace, což je téma, které se opět dostalo do akademického prostoru, a to zejména kvůli britskému referendu o setrvání v Evropské unii. Tento text se zaměřuje na koncept dezintegrace a dezintegračních teorií, které se snaží integrační krize, jako je tato, vysvětlit a předpovídat. Konkrétně se práce zaměřuje na vystoupení Velké Británie z Evropské unie, ke kterému došlo 31. ledna 2020. Brexit tedy v této práci zastává roli případu, který je podrobně analyzován. Práce je formována jako případová studie, která si klade za cíl zjistit, zda nějaký stávající integrační či dezintegrační teoretický přístup dokáže, na základě svých daných tezí a definic, vysvětlit krize evropské integrace a zjistit jejich příčiny. Jako nejrelevantnější teorie k otestování, které mají k dezintegraci aktuálně co říci, byly zvoleny - postfunkcionalismus, sociální konstruktivismus a mezivládní liberální přístup. Každá z těchto teorií obsahuje zcela odlišný názor a pohled na vývoj evropské integrace a potencionálních krizí. Hlavního cíle práce je dosaženo prostřednictvím metody shody, kdy jsou tři vybrané teorie postupně testovány a aplikovány na případ Brexitu.
