Proměny vzájemných vztahů mezi Japonskem a Jižní Koreou v kontextu současné obchodní války

Abstract

This thesis examines the trade war between South Korea and Japan, which began in the summer of 2019. The dispute has a complex history that partly explains the inevitability of the conflict: Japan is still coming to terms with its colonial past, while South Korea is struggling to forgive the war crimes it committed and is waiting for an official apology. Despite the long- standing disagreements between the two countries, South Korea and Japan remain key allies of the US, which is watching the whole trade war with great concern, especially because of the potential danger from North Korea, which confirms the global impact of this trade war. It is thus in the best interests of the United States to resolve the conflict quickly. Crucially, both Japan and South Korea are using the dispute to adopt hostile historicism as a key resource in the political game: using it to legitimize their own objectives. The aim of this thesis will therefore be to answer the question of what preceded the trade war between South Korea and Japan and what are the reasons for the deterioration of bilateral relations. Diplomová práce se zabývá obchodní válkou mezi Jižní Koreou a Japonskem, která započala v létě 2019. Tomuto sporu předcházela složitá historie, která částečně vysvětluje nevyhnutelnost konfliktu: Japonsko se stále vyrovnává se svojí koloniální minulostí, zatímco Jižní Korea jen těžko odpouští spáchané válečné zločiny a čeká na oficiální omluvu. I přes dlouhotrvající neshody mezi oběma státy zůstávají Jižní Korea a Japonsko klíčovými spojenci USA, které celou obchodní válku sledují s velkým znepokojením, obzvlášť kvůli potenciálně hrozícímu nebezpečí ze strany Severní Koreje, což potvrzuje globální dopad této obchodní války. Je tak v nejlepším zájmu Spojených států, aby se konflikt rychle vyřešil. Klíčové je, že Japonsko i Jižní Korea využívají sporu k převzetí nepřátelského historicismu jakožto klíčového zdroje v politické hře: s jeho pomocí legitimizují své vlastní cíle. Cílem diplomové práce bude proto zodpovědět otázku, co předcházelo obchodní válce mezi Jižní Koreou a Japonskem a jaké jsou důvody zhoršení bilaterálních vztahů. Další otázkou je, jakým způsobem může být konflikt vyřešen, a jestli ho mohou Spojené státy přímo ovlivnit.
