Olympijské hry v roce 1980 a jejich odraz sovětské zahraniční politiky

Abstract

1 Abstract The thesis examines the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 and their subsequent boycott. This significant sporting event was adversely affected by the Soviet military intervention in Afghanistan at the end of 1979. In response, the USA and several other countries decided to boycott the Moscow Olympics, with a total of 65 nations choosing not to participate, making it the largest boycott in the history of the Olympic Games. To understand the context, the international political situation in the 1980s is analyzed, along with the subsequent reasons for the boycott. The thesis also provides important facts regarding the organization of the Games (such as facilities, venues, the Olympic Village), the Soviet Union's preparations for the 22nd Olympic Games in Moscow, and the subsequent response of Soviet diplomacy to the boycott. A section of the thesis is dedicated to three athletes, of whom only one could participate in the Olympics. The objective of this work was not only to describe Soviet foreign policy but also to illustrate how sports can be exploited for propaganda. In the context of the Olympic Games, the relationship between the Soviet Union and not only the USA but also other countries is reflected. 1 Abstrakt Práce se zabývá olympijskými hrami v roce 1980 v Moskvě a jejich následným bojkotem. Tato velká sportovní událost byla negativně ovlivněna sovětským vojenským zásahem na konci roku 1979 v Afghánistánu. Odpovědí na to byl bojkot olympiády v Moskvě ze strany USA a řady dalších států - celkem 65 zemí se rozhodlo pro neúčast, čímž se jednalo o největší bojkot v historii olympijských her. Pro porozumění kontextu je analyzovaná mezinárodně-politická situace v 80. letech 20. století a následné důvody pro bojkot her. Dále jsou uvedena i důležitá fakta týkající se organizace her (jako např. zázemí, sportoviště, olympijská vesnička), přípravy Sovětského svazu na konání 22. olympijských her v Moskvě a následnou reakci sovětské diplomacie na bojkot her. Část práce je věnována i třem sportovcům, z nichž se pouze jeden mohl olympiády zúčastnit. Cílem této práce bylo nejen popsat sovětskou zahraniční politiku, ale i ukázat, jak sport může být zneužit v rámci propagandy. V kontextu olympijských her je reflektován vztah Sovětského svazu nejen s USA, ale i s ostatními zeměmi. Práce odhaluje, že zmírnění napětí bylo minulostí a došlo k opětovnému zhoršení vztahů mezi Sovětským svazem a Spojenými státy americkými, a tudíž lze bojkot považovat jako účinný zahraničněpolitický nástroj.
