Abstract

This Bachelor's thesis commences by outlining the life of Vojtěch Hynais prior to his departure to Prague, delving into his mentors, the influences shaping the artist, and the pivotal works he produced during this period. The thesis then proceeds chronologically to the artist's arrival in Prague, addressing his integration into the Czech artistic scene, highlighted by the presentation of his painting The Judgment of Paris. One of the primary objectives of the thesis is to trace Hynais's activities as an architectural decorator and graphic designer, thereby emphasizing works of such nature. The thesis also considers significant portrait works and delineates the late phase of Hynais's oeuvre, which correlates with the dichotomy between progressiveness and conservatism, particularly within the context of academicism. In this context, the thesis also examines Hynais's pedagogical endeavors at the Prague Academy, revealing, among other aspects, the influence he exerted as a professor, not solely limited to the younger generation. The concluding section of the Bachelor's thesis aims to address the question of progressiveness versus conservatism in the body of work by Vojtěch Hynais.

Bakalářská práce se v úvodu zabývá přiblížením života Vojtěcha Hynaise před odjezdem do Prahy, přičemž jsou zmíněni Hynaisovi učitelé, vlivy, které na umělce působily, a zásadní díla, která v tomto období vytvořil. Práce se dále chronologicky posouvá k umělcově příjezdu do Prahy, řeší jeho přijetí do českého uměleckého dění, s čímž souvisí mj. představení obrazu Paridův soud. Jedním z cílů práce je také sledování Hynaisovy činnosti jako architektonického dekoratéra a grafického designéra, je proto dáván důraz i na díla tohoto charakteru. Práce neopomíjí zásadní portrétní díla a nastiňuje pozdní fázi Hynaisovy tvorby, která souvisí s otázkou rozporu mezi progresivností a konzervativností, a to zejména v kontextu akademismu. V této souvislosti se práce zabývá i Hynaisovou pedagogickou činností na pražské Akademii, odkrývajíc mimo jiné jeho vliv z pozice profesora (nejen) na mladší generaci. Závěr bakalářské práce si dává za cíl zodpovědět otázku pokrokovosti versus konzervativnosti v díle Vojtěcha Hynaise.
