Juan Antonio S愃Ānchez Fern愃Āndez, Ph.D. La Regenta is the masterpiece of the Spanish author Leopoldo Alas and the subject of this bachelor thesis. In the first part, I will focus on the author of this work, place the work in its historical context, explain the genre, and introduce the role of women in the 19th century in order to bring into focus the position of the protagonist of the work, Ana Ozores, who is the focus of the analysis of the second part of this thesis. The analysis will first focus on the character herself and then examine parts of her life and the people who influenced her. More specifically, it will focus on her childhood, romantic life, faith, and the society of the city in which Ana lives.
