Britská monarchie na přelomu tisíciletí: proměny postavení a vnímání britské monarchie v období panování královny Alžběty II.

Abstract

Politická úloha britského monarchy se s vývojem parlamentní demokracie smršťovala a dnes většinu reálné moci vykonávají ministři Jeho Veličenstva. Zkoumání tématu současného postavení monarchy je tak pro porozumění procesu vývoje parlamentní monarchie nezbytné. S úbytkem reálné moci přešel panovníkův vliv do sociální sféry, díky čemuž byla monarchie schopna udržet svou relevanci v době volených zástupců lidu. Hlavním cílem práce je tedy analyzovat, jak se proměnilo postavení Koruny v politické a sociální sféře a jakou pozici v obou zmíněných sférách zastává britský monarcha nyní. Tato případová studie analýzou průzkumů veřejného mínění, děl uznávaných politologů a historiků ukazuje, že s úbytkem exekutivní moci panovníka se posílil jeho emoční status pro veřejnost, díky kterému ztělesňuje symboliku a stabilitu národa.

The political role of the British monarch has shrunk with the development of parliamentary democracy and today most of the real power is exercised by His Majesty's ministers. Exploring the topic of the current position of the monarch is thus essential to understanding the process of the evolution of parliamentary monarchy. With the decline of real power, the monarch's influence has shifted to the social sphere, which has enabled the monarchy to maintain its relevance in an age of elected representatives of the people. The main aim of this thesis is therefore to analyze how the Crown's position in the political and social spheres has changed and what position in both of these spheres the British monarch now occupies. By analyzing opinion polls, the works of renowned political scientists and historians, this case study shows that as the monarch's executive power has waned, his emotional status to the public has strengthened, making him the embodiment of the symbolism and stability of the nation.
