I. ÚVOD 1. Cíle a struktura práce Léta nacistické okupace na Litvě přinesla zkázu stovkám židovských obcí, mezi nimi i prvořadému duchovnímu centru východoevropského Židovstva: Vilnu (Vilniusu), "litevskému Jeruzalému". Litevští Židé byli první v Evropě, kteří byli vystaveni systematickému vyhlazování ze strany německých okupantů. Nacisté spolu se svými litevskými přisluhovači povraždili na 98 % židovských obyvatel Litvy, kteří jim padli do rukou - v žádné jiné zemi nepřinesl holocaust tak totální anihilaci židovské komunity. Ta tvořila v době nacistického vpádu na území Litvy asi 10 % obyvatelstva. Drtivá většina litevských Židů, včetně obyvatel litevské metropole, byla povražděna během necelého půl roku; jen ghetta ve Vilně, Коvně (Kaunasu), Šavlích (Šiauliai) a Švenčionysu přežila díky pracovnímu nasazení části židovských obyvatel po celé dva roky. Jejich likvidace byla důsledkem potlačení židovského odboje, jehož symbolem bylo povstání ve varšavském ghettu zahájené v dubnu 1943. Nacisté pohlíželi na zbývající ghetta jako na "sud se střelným prachem"; v duchu plného využití židovských pracovních sil byli práceschopní Židé přesunuti do nově vzniklých koncentračních táborů, "přebyteční" pak byli povražděni. Při pohledu zpět na léta destrukce židovské populace Evropy se nabízí otázka, jak mohlo vyvraždění...
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die vorliegende Magisterarbeit unter dem Titel "Auf dem Friedhof spielt man kein Theater. " - Öffentliche Kritik und Widerstand im Ghetto Wilna, 1941 - 194Ъ analysiert die Genese der Vereinigten Partisanerorganisation (Farejnikte partisaner organisatziye, FPO), der ersten organisierten jüdischen Widerstandsgruppe im Einflußbereich des Dritten Reiches, sowie die Formierung der organisierten Opposition gegen den Judenrat bzw. den Ghettovorsteher und Polizeichef in Wilna Jakov Gens. Kapitel II. (Wilna und die Juden) schildert die Geschichte der jüdischen Gemeinschaft vor dem deutschen Einmarsch im Juni 1941. Besonderes Augenmerk ist auf die der ideologischen Spaltung der Wilnaer Juden seit dem 19. Jahrhundert gelegt. Trotz des intensiven Terrors während der ersten sowjetischen Okkupation Litauens (1940 - 41) gelang es sowohl den zionistischen Jugendgruppen, der Ortsgruppe vom Bund (der nichtzionistischen, ,jidischistischen" sozialdemokratischen Partei) als auch den religiösen Strukturen, bis hin in die Zeit der Ghettoisierung zu überleben. Kapitel III. (Der blutige Sommer) widmet sich dem Zeitabschnitt zwischen der deutschen Besetzung der litauischen Hauptstadt am 24.
