Motiv cesty v Carpentierových románech Ztracené kroky a Výbuch v katedrále

Abstract

Alejo Carpentier is a representative of the so-called marvellous real. However, his novels also deal with issues of the Hispanic American identity, dictatorships and, in general, historical events in Europe and America. In his literary work, we can contemplate very often the journey motif undertaken by the main characters, which is not only a movement from one place to another (the horizontal journey), but which is also a journey in the time and a path of initiation where the heroes discover themselves (the vertical path). The journey motif and its forms in the Carpentier's novels The Lost Steps (which we classify as a forest novel) and Explosion in the Cathedral (where we can find Carpentier's favourite motif of revolution, and what it implies) are the topic of this bachelor's thesis. The present work is focused on the journeys of the main heroes of the novels. The analysis will also be supplemented with an elementary theory of the marvellous real. Alejo Carpentier je představitelem tzv. zázračného reálna. Jeho romány se ovšem zabývají také otázkami hispanoamerické identity, diktatury či obecně dějinných událostí v Evropě a Americe. Velmi často se v jeho díle objevuje motiv cesty, kterou postavy podnikají a která není jen přesunem z místa na místo (cesta horizontální), ale rovněž cestou v čase a iniciační poutí, při níž hrdinové poznávají sami sebe (cesta vertikální). Právě motiv cesty a její podoby jsou tématem této bakalářské práce zaměřené na jeho romány Ztracené kroky (který řadíme k románům pralesa) a Výbuch v katedrále (kde nalezneme Carpentierův oblíbený motiv revoluce a toho, co přináší). Cesty v dílech podstupují zejména hlavní hrdinové románů, kterým se práce věnuje. Analýza bude rovněž doplněna o elementární teorii zázračného reálna.
