Western Union - průkopník globalizace

Abstract

Cílem diplomové práce Western Union - průkopník globalizace, je popsat vznik a rozvoj společnosti Western Union v kontextu historického vývoje, technických objevů 19. a 20. století a participace společnosti na propojování světa. Zachycuje jakou roli hrála firma v procesu globalizace komunikace. Jako tři klíčové posuny v globalizaci komunikace jsou označovány: rozvoj podmořských kabelových systémů, zakládání mezinárodních zpravodajských agentur a užití elektromagnetických vln pro potřeby komunikování. V práci jsou pak podrobněji popsány tyto tři klíčové posuny, od počátku po současnost. Uvedeny jsou také významné události, společnosti, či osoby, které výrazným způsobem přispěly ke globální výměně informací a ovlivnily i současný způsob jejich zpracování a distribuci. V samotné části věnované primárně vzniku a vývoji Western Union je popsáno zapojení této společnosti do procesu globalizace. Dále je pak zachycen současný podnikatelský model, strategie, konkurence na trhu a celkové změny v oblasti mezinárodních finančních transakcí. Liberalizací trhu se otevřely možnosti pro nové poskytovatele v tomto oboru, proto jsou popsány marketingové aktivity k udržení tržního podílu. Ve výzkumné části pak analyzuji vybraná tištěná reklamní sdělení, která Western Union prezentoval v průběhu několika desetiletí....

The aim of the diploma thesis Western Union - Pioneer of the Globalization is to describe the arise and growth of the Western Union company, in the context of the historical development, the technical discoveries of the 19th and 20th century, and the role the company had in linking the world. It describes the role the company had in the process of globalization. The three key elements of that process are: development of the underwater cables, the arise of international world news agencies, and the use of electromagnetic waves for communication. In this diploma thesis all those three elements had been described, from their beginning, until present. There are also evoked extraordinary events, companies or persons that by their bold acts had contribute to the global exchange of information and had influenced the current way of processing and distribution. In the part that is primarily dedicated to the arise and growth of the Western Union, the way the company was tied to the process of globalization is described. Further is described the current business model, the business strategy, market competitors, and overall changes in international financial transactions.
