Rozbor překladů knihy Arthura Ransoma Swallows and Amazons

Abstract

This thesis deals with the analysis of two different translations of Arthur Ransome's book Swallows and Amazons. The analysis is focused on elements that are usually difficult to translate and also on special changes in the text, which the translators made to make the text more readable for the Czech children. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first one is concerned with the life and work of Arthur Ransome. Ransome's biography has there main parts: Ransome's beginnings of writing m London, his stay and work as a journalist in Russia during the Russian revolution and his most famous books for children about Swallows and Amazons. Further, the chapter contains synopsis and reviews of Ransome's book Swallows and Amazons and a description of the most important characters in his books for children. At the end of the chapter, there is a short paragraph about all Ransome's children's books which were published in Czech. List of all translations is available in Appendix. The second chapter deals with the theory o f translation. It examines different elements of a text which can cause problems. Diplomová práce se zabývá rozborem dvou překladů knihy Arthura Ransoma Swallows and Amazons se zaměřením na dětského čtenáře. V teoretické části se práce věnuje životu a dílu Arthura Ransoma a podrobněji se zabývá knihou Swallows and Amazons. V této části jsou také analyzovány různé teoretické problémy překladu a specifika překládání literatury pro děti. Praktická část, která obsahuje vlastní rozbor překladů, se opírá o poznatky nastíněné v teoretické části. Jsou zde porovnány různé části překladů a také je zde shrnuta vhodnost jejich použití.
